Mahinda Rajapakshe is KING!!!!!

Mahinda is the undisputed unconquered democratically elected KING of Sri Lanka for the next 6-8 years (and beyond if he’s really really clever). His legitimacy is unquestionable now. Mahinda is given a mandate from the Sinhala Buddhist people of this country to lead the nation in the next decade to come.

Sinhala People’s Collective memory span is longer than two Weeks

As surprising as it sounds, this seems to be the case. Given how the Sinhala people have behaved in the past it is refreshing to see Mahinda Win majority Sinhala electorates 60%+. What he won he won big (by around 15000-40000 in average electorates of around 40000-80000 voters).

MR celebrations - Photo curtesy Daily Mirror

10000 Rupees? FUCK YOU BITCH!!

Yes the 10000 rupee increment ruse has not worked with the government servants at all. They all voted 60-70% toward the government who basically promised them shit. Thank god for SWRD’s Swabasha act, now we have government servants who are majority Sinhalese and who will not behave the way Colombo 7 elites want them to.

There Are More Important Things than Money

Surprising as it sounds apparently this is the general summed up message coming from the polls. No one can argue that a UNP government is better for the economy. The UNP is backed by the economic class of Sri Lanka and has powerful contacts outside who would have invested heavily without a single comment about “Human Rights”.

But it seems that Sinhala people has finally got it in to their heads that selling the soul to the same people who came to Sri Lanka and committed genocide 2-3 centuries ago is not a good idea. (We’d rather sell it to China..lol)

Colombo’s Virtual Reality

It takes times like these for the rich fat bastards in Colombo to realize that Sri Lanka is not Colombo. No matter how much they pretend that it’s all about Colombo in the end when it comes to democracy, the power of the people wins. And the people do not live in Colombo.

Democratic Corruption

A large majority of the people in Sri Lanka supports Corruption. The entire UNJVP campaign was based on “Mahinda Rajapakshe’s Corruption”. (Never mind the fact that while UNJVP shouted corruption from Colombo what people saw was real development after decades of negligence). So much so that it was taken as a “fact” and no one was able to produce proof.

However by the transitive properties of corrupt logic it can be successfully argued that since it is a fact that MR is corrupt and MR is democratically elected the majority of the Sri Lankan people support Corruption. So whenever someone accuse you of being corrupt just say “The country supports corruption 58% – 40%.

What’s happening in this country is getting weirder and weirder by the day. Why on earth would the government send a SMS to all phones (I know they sent it to all Dialog phones, probably sent it through other operators as well) saying to watch TV at 8.05 pm to watch “Sri Lanka make history”.

Luckily though, I missed it. Did a bit of shopping and got caught up at the Nugegoda Traffic, (which seems to be heavier now that the flyover has being built). There were people driving like crazy (Crazier than usual) at around 7.45 – 8 which I think was to get home to watch the big moment.

So I came home to find out about the history making moment only to hear my sister say it’s about some trains and people travelling in trains. I mean SERIOUSLY? This is worst marketing ever. Have they ever heard about the “boy who cried WOLF!!)

Come to think about it this would have being a great April fool’s joke. And sure made history alright, as the most pointless attempt at making people watch a TV advertisement and 5 mins of Sri Lankan lives that they won’t get back.

On the other hand I figured out how the government’s going to lose this big popularity that they have rightly earned. If they keep acting like this the UNP will look like the better of the two clowns.

On other news I started jogging this morning, was surprised to find out that people are out and about @ 5.45AM.

And the message was simple. New Group — Same number of members. (20000 is the target infact).. and the response so far has being overwhelming (For Sri Lanka that is)

It has beng just over 20 hours and the membership now stands at 1055 (To put things in to prespective, it took three years to get 16000 members..)…

We can do little but laugh at the scenes unfolding before our eyes in respective to “journalists” in Sri Lanka. Yesterday tow journalists working for the ITN was “abducted, verbally abused and manhandled” by the UNP, the righteous political party which champions Freedom of the Media and Human Rights.

According to the Daily Mirror they were “arrested” by Private Guards at Sirikotha suspecting they were LTTE carders. (Where have we heard that one before?)

Let’s look at the Facts.

For some strange reason they were relapsed from the back entrance when the police came to “rescue” them.

Then they were followed by a White Van right up to the ITN office.

Seriously what’s with the White Vans? Can’t everyone just use a different colored van for these purposes? How about black? It’ll perfectly go along with the whole intimidation thing right?

The Champion Media Rights organizations (who protest and howl foul play as loud as they can when a journalist is as much as bumped in the road by someone) has issued a statement saying that the UNP should apologize.. LOL…Gee…why don’t they use the same line when someone other than the UNP are the culprits..

And the Sri Lankan Blogosphere who shout in indignation and soooo much passion when the government is at the receiving end are mum about it.

This just proves there’s nothing wrong with the current “Media Situation” in the country. It’ll be exactly the same if the UNP were in power. It’s just some people making a lot of noise out of nothing to pamper the West.

For some strange reason a portion (a small portion at that) of the Sri Lankan people are stuck in utter disbelief and confusion. That is those who didn’t vote for the current government. For some reason hard core UNP supporters and Hard core anti-government supporters (the difference being a thin line) are now reduced to screaming in desperation at the apparent “state” of the country.

They seem to be just mystified at how the Sri Lankan people (I guess it is now just reduced to just the Sinhalese) are putting up with the current administration. The cost of living is almost the double since MR came to power. There’s enough evidence of corruption and 109 (something) ministers who seem to be enjoying it all and the obvious lack of interest in latest journalist who was beaten up.

The Opposition (As the UNPers and Anti-Govt activists are called these days) are reduced to holding some protests and/or joining a protest by someone else. By all accounts the JVP is doing a much better job at showing opposition to the government, (and the UNP are meekly following them) but due to Magic of MR even its split in two. We’ll have to wait and see how well the JVP would fare in the General strike planned on the 10th.

For some reason the Masses are still with the government. As by some mysterious way Mahinda has “captured” the Sinhalese people and are holding them mesmerized and blind to the ill-effects of his administration.

Increasingly the Sinhalese are being blamed by the opposition due to the lack of action and it’s getting increasingly borderline racist. In the Blogosphere people are terming us Lazy and some are portraying us as racists. (Like ramblingsmind who has a very well written article portraying the Sinhalese as Voldemort Supporters. ie. A bunch of bigots/racists who go running around killing people for fun). Some like indi is outraged at the MOD’s outrage towards journalists.

No one’s demanding to know why the SLPI sent Terrorist to Denmark. No one’s even questioning how some director of the Film Cooperation turned out to be the master mind of most of the suicide bombers because they arnt sure who’s to blame… No questioning those is violating the “freedom of expression”

The really funny thing is the opposition seems to think that the Quality of Life is the most important thing in life. IT’s not. We had that when the UNP were in charge making peace with the LTTE. But we chose to ignore that and vote for Mahinda who promised War. If peace is the time when the enemy kills openly and strengthens themselves while we look on with utter disbelief at the actions of the govt. (I remember one govt. minister’s claim that Informants/intelligence operatives are no-longer their responsibility because their services are no longer required)

What did Ranil do other than giving tax cuts to the Rich? Giving equipment and the International recognition to the Tigers? Why the Hell would we ever want to go back to that life? This is far better. Even with the random chance of being blown to pieces by a suicide bomber. The most important thing is that we do not cave in to terrorism. Why do we need to be forced in to accepting demands of terrorists? We are Almost Free. At least there’s no foreign hand dictating our future (obviously that is)

The Really Really funny thing is that those who are shouting about the cost of living are sooo far better off than those who’re suffering, (and would qualify as Rich). Those who shout about the freedom of media hardly read a Local news paper and most of them seem to be living abroad/or in central Colombo and crying out in Desperation.
