There’s some stories going around saying thatin the future, Sri Lankan Mobile Users will have to have proof of owner ship of their MobileSIMs/or Phones with them at all times along with ID cards.
As usual we can expect the uproar from the Free Media Huggers and Self Proclaimed Human Rights Crusaders.
I really don’t read the papers or listen to the News. I find them utterly and despicably politically biased. Whether they are Rupavahini/ITN or Sirasa/MTV. So only thing I know about the issue is what my mother mentioned while we were on our way to work this morning.
So I’m thinking is this going to work? If we buy a new SIM/Phone we need to have the receipt with us? So the old SIM/Phone owners will have a free pass? I don’t know about anyone else but I think the easiest way is to tell the cop searching you that ur phone/SIM is an Old One..LOL..no sweat Easy..
I don’t know much about mobile phones..but I think there must be a service start date recorded on the SIM and/or the Phone. But I can’t imagine a Cop going through the menu searching for it…. Fuck I hardly know all the functionalities in my phone (a Nokia N73 btw)..and it’s being 9 months since I bought it..
Fine if implemented properly it would effectively stop terrorist from using disposable SIMs and Phones. But for it to work this needed to be implemented the first day Mobile Phones were introduced to SL. Wish someone thought about security back them. But then again in those days Mobile phones probably were luxury goods. No one would have demanded the Rich keep their receipts..LOL..
The more I think about it the more impractical it sounds. Most likely it’s something circulated by the Opposition to piss off the public. Or something done by the government just so that the Free Media Crusaders could whine and scream about without really affecting serious issues…
