We can do little but laugh at the scenes unfolding before our eyes in respective to “journalists” in Sri Lanka. Yesterday tow journalists working for the ITN was “abducted, verbally abused and manhandled” by the UNP, the righteous political party which champions Freedom of the Media and Human Rights.
According to the Daily Mirror they were “arrested” by Private Guards at Sirikotha suspecting they were LTTE carders. (Where have we heard that one before?)
Let’s look at the Facts.
- For some strange reason they were relapsed from the back entrance when the police came to “rescue” them.
- Then they were followed by a White Van right up to the ITN office.
Seriously what’s with the White Vans? Can’t everyone just use a different colored van for these purposes? How about black? It’ll perfectly go along with the whole intimidation thing right?
- The Champion Media Rights organizations (who protest and howl foul play as loud as they can when a journalist is as much as bumped in the road by someone) has issued a statement saying that the UNP should apologize.. LOL…Gee…why don’t they use the same line when someone other than the UNP are the culprits..
- And the Sri Lankan Blogosphere who shout in indignation and soooo much passion when the government is at the receiving end are mum about it.
This just proves there’s nothing wrong with the current “Media Situation” in the country. It’ll be exactly the same if the UNP were in power. It’s just some people making a lot of noise out of nothing to pamper the West.

Merry Christmas! During my childhood, my step father always ordered us a Collins St fruitcake to enjoy during the Christmas holidays. When all the kids grew up and moved out on their own, he would send each of us a fruitcake every year for Christmas. He went to be with the Lord a couple of years ago. Media NGOs and Journalists with Hidden Agendas and are Politically Motivated/Oriented are not only a curse in Sri Lanka but the whole world!

Hi Charles. I have done that before when I was in a house, but it is more difficult in an apartment. I post these rants more to raise the awareness of people considering coming to Panama than anything else. I never thought about having adequate water where I lived in the US. Many gringos move to Panama and are rudely awakened to the problem after buying in an area and finding that they don’t have water, Internet and maybe no land-line telephone.
