For someone who is from Sri Lanka the title will give you a lot of meaning. There are in fact two kinds of Sinhalese. No matter what ever the situation there will always be two kinds of Sinhalese. Here’s a quick list. (Inspiration for the list Courtesy of Dinidu)
- The aristocrats who subjected themselves to British Rule and those who fought.
- Those who wanted the Brits to Leave and those who didn’t.
- Those who want peace and those who don’t.
- Those who help the LTTE and those who don’t.
- Those who put down other Sinhalese and those who don’t.
- Those who blame the Sinhalese for everything that is wrong with this country and those who don’t
- Those who are ashamed of bring Sinhalese and try to act all “posh” and westernized and those who aren’t.
- And Finally the primitives who believe The Mahavansa literally and those who don’t.

I guess these two kinds are very much prevalant in all the other Communities in Sri lanka too.

Acromantula has made an impressive effort to list the two kinds of Sinhalese but Appu’d like to add one more crucial entry to the list of Sinhalese types:
those who use the label ‘Sri Lankan’ to mean ‘Sinhalese’; and, those who don’t!
how about …
Those who are born with an inferiority complex and try to hide it by labeling others to feel good and those who don’t.
those who eat meat and those who dont?
how about; those with integrity, and those without?
…and those who are like Dr Mervyn and those who are not?

Yes, you are correct. Like MisChief, I was referring to the title and the assumption that a true Sri Lankan would understand what is in essence a Sinhalese cultural reference. I’m sure Acromantula didn’t mean to say that only a Sinhalese could be a Sri Lankan, but he didn’t stop to think before he said what he said. Ironically, Acromantula doesn’t realise that Prabhakaran relies on people like him to fuel his arguement for Eelam.
Accromantula thinks it’s Very strange tht Vasee and Appu are mistaken about Sinhalese and Sri Lankans, and fails to understand their contradictory statements..
Here’s a simple expressions
Sinhalese + Tamils + Muslims +Burgers +(Others: P:P) = Sri Lankans
Who’s saying otherwise?? This list is about Sinhalese

Sinhalese with LTTE identity card arrested in Anuradhapura

A Sinhala man, who attempted to enter the premises of Anuradhapura High Court on July 20 with an identity card allegedly issued by the LTTE, was taken into custody and is being detained for interrogation by the Terrorist Intelligence Division (TID) of the Sri Lanka Police. Police personnel manning the sentry point at the entrance to the High Court arrested the suspect, police sources said.
The identity card the police alleged had the insignia of the LTTE on it.
Police sources said the inquiry was being conducted to verify the purpose of the visit of the suspect to the High Court, and how he came to be in possession of LTTE identity card.
